Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Seasonal events, including cultural festivals, agricultural fairs, and religious celebrations, play a significant role in shaping local economies by attracting visitors, generating revenue, and creating employment opportunities. In Makurdi Local Government Area, Benue State, seasonal events such as the New Yam Festival and Christmas fairs are integral to the socio-economic fabric of the community. These events stimulate economic activities by driving demand for goods and services, promoting local businesses, and enhancing tourism. According to Ochefu and Adakole (2024), seasonal events serve as catalysts for economic growth, fostering community development and cultural preservation. However, despite their potential, the economic impact of seasonal events in Makurdi is often undermined by challenges such as inadequate infrastructure, poor event planning, and limited stakeholder collaboration. This study examines the impact of seasonal events on the local economy in Makurdi, exploring their contributions, challenges, and implications for sustainable economic development.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
While seasonal events in Makurdi contribute to the local economy, their full potential remains untapped due to various challenges, including limited funding, inadequate marketing, and poor infrastructure. Previous studies have focused on the cultural and social aspects of seasonal events but have not adequately explored their economic impact in Makurdi (Agbo & Ocholi, 2023). This gap in research limits the understanding of how seasonal events can be leveraged to drive sustainable economic growth. This study seeks to address these issues by evaluating the impact of seasonal events on the local economy in Makurdi Local Government Area.
1.3 Objectives of the Study

1.6 Significance of the Study

1.7 Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study focuses on the impact of seasonal events on the local economy in Makurdi Local Government Area, Benue State. It excludes other aspects of seasonal events, such as cultural or social impacts, and focuses specifically on their economic contributions. Limitations may include variations in data availability and stakeholder participation.
